Borovoy, DPM, Harold
Margolis, DO and Hershel
Sandberg, MD. They will
each be presented with Is-
rael's Maimonides Award,
in recognition "of their out-
standing contributions to
their professional fields,
their community, and the
state of Israel."
Ms. Steel was born in Be-
rlin and as an infant em-
barked with her parents
aboard the ill-fated St.
Louis, the ship which was
refused asylum in Cuba and
forced to return to _Europe.
Her parents eventually
perished in the Holocaust
but she was hidden through
World War II by a French
Catholic family and finally

Former Detroiter Dr.
Gary Friedlaender, a fa-
culty member at the Yale
University School of
Medicine, has been named
by the U.S. Surgeon Gen-
eral to head the steering
committee of the new
American Council on
Transplantation.
The new council will try
to increase the availability
of donated organs for trans-
plant surgery.
Dr. Friedlaender, son of
Detroiters Dr. and Mrs.
Alex (Eileen) Friedlaender,
