Book Links Birch Society, Anti-Semitism
Richard Gilman of Ann
Arbor has written and pub-
lished "Behind World Revo-
lution — The Strange
Career of Nesta H. Webster,
Vol. 1" (Insights Books).
Gilman describes "Be-
hind World Revolution" as
"primarily a biography of a
highly influential, radical
right political theorist who
has had and continues to
have a profound effect on
the thinking of radical
rightists throughout the
English-speaking world.
Special attention is given to
the promotion of her books
and ideas by the John Birch
Society and Britain's neo-
Nazi National Front, and
contemporary discussions of
her ideas by both the aca-
demic community and con-
spiracy theory devotees.
"This book is of impor-
tance because the rise to
prominence of the John
Birch Society-influenced
New Right movement has

brought many heretofore
outer political fringe ideas
(including Mrs. Webster's
theories) much closer to the
political mainstream.
"Just how extensive
the Birch Society influ-
ence on the New Right
has been was under-
scored recently by the
lavish praise accorded
the late Congressman
and John Birch Society
chairman, Lawrence
McDonald, at the Wash-
ington, D.C. memorial
service held a week after
the shooting down of Ko-
rean Airlines Flight 007.
At this service Reverend
Jerry Falwell went so far
as to compare Con-
gressman McDonald
with Samson!

JNF to Continue Boosting
Galilee, Negev Settlements

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The urgent need to provide
suitable land for increased
Jewish settlement in the
Galilee and the Negev was
stressed by Jewish National
Fund (JNF) world chairman
Moshe Rivlin in recent
meetings here with Zionist
leaders, journalists and
members of the JNF's Na-
tional Leadership Council.
Rivlin, who was in the
United States on a JNF in-
formational and fund-
raising tour, said that de-
spite the new Israeli gov-
ernment's emphasis on
belt-tightening and budget
cuts, the priorities of land
reclamation and
settlement-site preparation
must be maintained to
guarantee that "Israel will
have a future." He cited
three major areas of JNF
concern and action in the
months ahead:
• JNF must answer the
"cry of the desert" with in-
tensified afforestation ef-
forts to complete a green
belt extending far into Is-
rael's south and delineating
the Negev with the "green
gift of new life."

"It is my hope and expec-
tation that my book and re-
lated articles will draw
enough attention to the
Birch Society's abuses that
they will feel compelled to
cease selling the few re-
maining items of anti-
Semitic literature that they
carry."
