Adler Testimonial Occasion
to Award Honor to Cantor

Congregation
Lists Services

The Troy Jewish Congre-
gation has listed its
schedule of services for the
next month. The congrega-
tion will meet at 7:45 p.m.
today, Oct. 28, Nov. 11 and
18, and 10 a.m. Nov. 5, at
Luthern Church of the Mas-
ter, 3333 Coolidge, Troy.
Rabbi David Hachen will
officiate at the Nov. 18 serv-
ices and at 10 a.m. Nov. 19
will conduct a study group,
meeting at the church.
At a recent election,
David Singer of Rochester
was elected to the congrega-
tion's board.

early age and served at
many large synagogues in a
cantorial capacity.

Prior to coming to De-
troit, Cantor Adler
served for many years as
the cantor of an Or-
thodox synagogue in
Cleveland, Ohio.

Among the organizations
he has linked himself with
are: Jewish War Veterans,
Mosaic Lodge of the Ma-
sons, Hebrew Benevolent
Society, Jewish Home for
Aged, League of Jewish
Women's Organizations,
Hannah Schloss Old Timers
and the cultural group at
the Jewish Community
Center. In 1967, he received
the Shofar Award from the
Jewish Boy Scouts Commit-
tee of Metropolitan Detroit.
Synagogue President
Jerome Soble will make the
presentation to Cantor
Adler. Melville Richman
and Max Sosin are the
dinner chairmen.

Nobel Laureate
Won Wolf Prize

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Dr.
Barbara McClintock, the
winner of the 1983 Nobel
Prize for medicine, was the
recipient of the Israeli Wolf
Foundation Prize in 1981.
The 81-year-old biologist
from Cold Spring Harbor,
Long Island, New York, re-
ceived the $100,000 Wolf
Award for her discovery
that genes can move from
one spot to another on the
chromosomes of a plant and
change the future genera-
tions of plants it produces.

La. Court Rules
on Creationism

NEW ORLEANS — The
Louisiana Supreme Court
has ruled that the state
legislature has the right to
order the teaching of
creationism alongside the
theory of evolution in public
schools.
Monday's 4-3 decision by
the court focused on
whether a 1981 law calling
for "equal treatment" for
the opposing theories of
life's origin was valid.
