Alter was elected president of the Michigan Regional Advisory Board of the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith at that group's annual meeting. Alter, ac- tive in the United Jewish Appeal's Young Leadership Cabinet and the local Allied Jewish Campaign, is also a member of ADL's National Executive Committee and co-chair of its National Law Committee. Elected with Alter were Robert J. Gordon, Betty Alfred S. Bloomingdale was the chairman of the board and founder of the Diners Club. was responsible for the in- vestigation and prosecution of Nazi war criminals in the United States. He prose- cuted the government's case against Bishop Valerian Trifa of Grass Lake, Mich. The cocktail party is part of the 1983 fund-raising campaign of the Anti- Defamation League. Stuart M. Lockman, Dr. Laurence A. Miller and George M. Nyman co-chair the ADL campaign. J. Laevin Weiner is co-hosting the party. In 1977, Ryan was named assistant to the solicitor general of the United States, and in 1980 was ap- pointed to the Justice De- partment's Office of Special Investigations. In March of this year, Ryan was ap- pointed special assistant at- torney general, to conduct the Klaus Barbie investiga- tion, where he served until September, resigning to write a book on Nazi war criminals. Peter Kobi was sentenced by a military court to 28 days in an army stockade for refusing to obey his call-up notice. Four IDF reservists are at present serving prison terms for refusing to serve in south Lebanon. Not all soldiers refusing such or- ders are sent to prison. In some cases officers prefer is- suing them alternate orders to do their reserve service elsewhere.
