Lee, a Reagan Administration legal official, has argued be- fore the Supreme Court that a local government which included a Nativity scene as part of an official Christmas display was not in violation of the Constitution. Lee tried to persuade the court Tuesday that a Fed- eral appeals court was in error when it ruled a year ago that the display of a city-owned creche by Paw- tucket, R.I. violated the Constitutionally required separation of church and state. The Nativity scene was challenged in Federal court by a group of local residents and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The Reagan Administra- tion had no involvement in the case until after the Sup- reme Court agreed to hear the city's appeal. - Certified by the National Automotive.
