A four-day conference on
Jewish playwriting and the
kick-off of a two-month fes-
tival of Jewish plays and
films are'among the high-
lights of the Third Interna-
tional Jewish Play confer-
ence Festival, beginning
Oct. 30 at the University of
Pittsburgh. The conference
will be co-sponsored by the
National Foundation for
Jewish Culture and the Un-
ited Jewish Federation of
Greater Pittsburgh.
Five mainstage produc-
tions featuring several
Pittsburgh premiers, seven
staged readings of works by
internationally-based con-
temporary Jewish authors
and presentations by prom-
inent speakers and
panelists will highlight the
conference.
The University Theater
will present the American
premiere of Shimon Win-
celberg's "The Windows of

Heaven" on Oct. 30. On
Nov. 1, the City Theater
Company will present a
staged reading of Richard
Schotter's "Benya the
King," which received one
of two 1983 playwriting
awards of the National

Foundation for Jewish Cul-
ture.
Day sessions will be de-
voted to staged readings,
workshops and open discus-
sion with the playwrights.
The conference will close on
the morning of Nov. 3.

ship Award from American
Mizrahi Women (AMW) at
the AMW national conven-

World War II he served in

by the Jewish Agency in

Catskill Hotel
Charged With
Fraud on Food

KERHONKSON, N.Y. —
The state agriculture de-
partment has charged a
Catskills hotel with fraud
for the sale of non-kosher
food which it had advertised
as kosher.
The agriculture depart-
ment seized 25 chickens, 25
veal breasts, six packages of
boneless pork loin and other
non-kosher items from the
kitchen of Tessler's Resort
Hotel Inc. as evidence last
week, according to Rabbi
Schulem Rubin, director of
kosher laW enforcement for
the department.
If convicted, the hotel
could face a $1,000 fine,
New York attorney General
Robert Adams said.
