states will meet in South-
field Oct. 21-23 for the Un-
ited Jewish Appeal East
Central-Midwest Leader-
ship Conference.

man of the conference,
which will be at the Michi-
gan Inn. Other Detroiters
involved in planning the
event are Dr. Richard
Krugel, conference chair-
man; and Susan Citrin and
Edie Mittenthal, confer-
ence co-chairmen. The con-
ference will be hosted by the
Jewish Welfare Federation
of Detroit.
According _to Dr. Krugel,
"the weekend will highlight -
the challenges confronting
the American Jewish corn=
munity, current trends in
Israel/.Diaspora relation-
ships, and the plight of Jews
in distressed communities
around the world."

der Levin (D-Mich.) and
United Jewish Appeal
national vice chairman
Robert M. Schrayer of
Chicago will address a
session on "Domestic Is-
sues Facing American
Jewry and the Political
Process."
Other conference speak-
ers will include Dr. Aryeh
Nesher, director of UJA Op-
eration Breakthrough, who
will present "A Campaign
Perspective for 1984," and
Dr. Irwin Cotler of McGill
University, who will pre-
sent "Israel/Diaspora Rela-
tions," "Soviet Jewry" and
"A. Dialogue With Young
Leaders." —
Tom Dine, executive di-
rector of AIPAC, and Dan
Halprin, economic minister
at the Israel Embassy, will
headline a panel, "-Geo-
Politics of the Middle East."
Concurrent workshops will
cover Jews in Ethiopia,
Latin America and behind
the IrOn - Curtain.
An important theme of
the conference will be out-
reach to Jewish college and
graduate school students.
Richard Lobenthal, director
of the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith in De-
troit, Dr. Martin Plax of the
American Jewish Commit-
tee and Jonathan Kessler of
AIPAC will analyze "The
Arab Influence on Cam-
pus." Three workshops will
focus on graduate students'
campaigns, worker re-
cruitment and goal setting.
Project Renewal, the
social rehabilitation
program for Israel's im-
poverished neighbor-
hoods, will be the subject
of a special multi-media
presentation and a work-
shop. There will also be a
Women's Division $5,000

old flag at the Jewish Home
for Aged's Borman Hall in
ceremonies at 2 p.m. Wed-
nesday. Syte Department
Commander Al Rose will
present the Home with a
new flag. Stephen Roizen,
assistant executive director
of the Home, will accept the
flag. Men's and Ladies De-
partment members are re-
quested to attend.
