LONDON — Daniel
Mayer, the rabbi-designate
for Czechoslovakia- now
studying at the Jewish
Theological Seminary in
Budapest, visited Great
Britain for a few weeks re-
cently to be trained as a
mohel.
According to the Interna-
tional Council of Jews from
Czechoslovakia, Mayer told
Jewish leaders that Czech
authorities still have to de-
cide if he will be rabbi
for the entire country or if
he will be restricted to
Prague.
Mayer said the Czechs
may allow one or two other
students to go to Budapest
for rabbinical training in
the future.

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The move in Congress to de-
regulate broadcasting could
result in destroying the cur-
rent efforts aimed at per-
suading the Federal Com-
munications Commission to
deny the renewal of the
license to the owner of a
Dodge City, Kan., radio sta-
tion accused of broadcasting
anti-Semitic and other ra-
cist programs, according to
a Washington attorney
specializing in communica-
tion law.
The attorney, James
Weitzman, who has
spearheaded the efforts to
deny renewal of the license
of Nellie Babs, owner of
KTTL-FM, told the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency that
this is because the bills now
before the House would
eliminate the comparative
renewal process.

Learning Center
to Be Memorial
to BBYO Leader

WASHINGTON — Plans
are under way for a memo-
rial to honor the late Julius
Bisno, the first full-time
professional of the Bnai
Brith Youth Organization
(BBYO), who died last June
at the age of 72.
A group of friends and col-
leagues has set up a com-
mittee to establish the
Julius Bisno Learning
Center at the Bnai Brith
Beber Camp in
Mukwonago, Wis. The
center — expected to cost
about $360,000 — will be an
integral part of the camp's
Perlman Leadership Vil-
lage.

Foreign Debt

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
As of April, Israel's total
foreign debt stood at $28
billion. Israel has $12.5 bill-
ion in foreign currency re-
serves, leaving a negative
balance of payments of
$15.5 billion.
Experts say Israel's trade
deficit of $4.72 billion in
1982 would have been $5.9
billion if the nation had not
curtailed purchases of
foreign arms and world oil
prices had not fallen.

For example, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the initial minute of a
direct-dialed call to Tel Aviv costs only $2.21 *—additional minutes
are 80 cents* each. These same low rates apply to all other Israeli cities.
If your telephone exchange isn't presently equipped for international
dialing, you still get the same low rate on station-to-station calls placed
through an operator. Overseas dialing— it's easy...it's inexpensive...
it's fast! And the sound of your voice is so much more personal than
a letter or telegram.
