The goals of the weekend are to train new members, teach members more about BBYO, promote regional unity, and to teach members how BBYO fits into the larger Jewish community. The weekend will feature an oneg Shabat on prejudice, a program on learning team skills and cooperation, spirit sessions, sports and a dance. The Great Lakes BBG Council announces the selection of Karen Sklar of Machar BBG as coordinator for the forthcoming BBG Volleyball League. The league will begin in January and will be played each Sunday through April. Friedmans Cited for Support of Yiddish Studies Programs The Sholem Aleichem In- stitute will honor Mr. and Mrs. Moshe (Sarah) Fried- man at an oneg Shabat 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Franklin Pointe Apts. club house. The Friedmans have sponsored and supported Yiddish studies at several universities. Aaron Lansky, founder and executive director of the National Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass. will present an illustrated lecture on `The Yiddish Re- vival: Adventures of a Book Collector." Lansky holds a BA de- gree in modern Jewish History and an MA de- gree in East European and Jewish Studies from McGill University, and is a graduate of the Uriel Weinreich Yiddish Prog- ram at Columbia Univer- sity. For the past year, the Sholem Aleichem Institute has collected 3,000 Yiddish books to ship to the Center in Amherst. The public is invited. Re- freshments will be served. .
