Rorem to compose a piece in
honor of the organization's
60th anniversary.
The work, to be created
for cello and piano, will be
premiered next May at De-
troit's Orchestra Hall for
the Music Study Club's an-
nual Artist Concert.
Rorem has been commis-
sioned on numerous occa-
sions by the New York City
Opera Company and the
Koussevitzky Foundation.
His orchestral suite, "Air
Music," commissioned by
the Cincinnati Symphony,
won him the Pulitzer Prize
in 1977.
