JWF's 57th Annual Meeting
Will Cite Max M. Fisher

Communal, business and
civic leader Max M. Fisher
will receive special tribute
from the Jewish Welfare
Federation at its 57th an-
nual meeting Oct. 4 at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
The dinner meeting will
begin with a 6 p.m. recep-
tion. The community is in-
vited to attend.
A past president of Fed-
eration and the honorary
chairman of its executive
committee, Fisher is being
honored on the occasion of
his 75th birthday and his
naming as founding chair-
man of the Jewish Agency
for Israel, which he guided
as chairman for the past 13
years. He was one of the
founders of the Jewish
Agency.
The annual meeting
also will be highlighted
by the presentation of the
Fred M. Butzel Memorial
Award to Martin E. Cit- .
rin. Federation President
Avern Cohn will present
his annual report.
Over the past several de-
cades, Fisher's communal

leadership and philan-
thropy have created an im-
pact on the local, national
and international level. He
is the first Detroiter to have
served as national chair-
man of the United Jewish
Appeal and the only indi-
vidual to have held both
that presidency and the
presidency of the Council
of Jewish Federations.
While playing a major
role in such organizations
as the Joint Distribution
Committee, HIAS and the
American Jewish Commit-
tee, Fisher has continued
his involvement in local
communal agencies, includ-
ing Sinai Hospital and the
Jewish Community Center.
A founder and, former
chairman of New Detroit,
Inc., and of Detroit Renais
sance, he served as the first
Jewish chairman of the
United Foundation's Torch
Drive and was a OF
president.
Reservations are re-
quired and there is a charge.
For information, call Fed-
eration, 965-3939.
