Speakers Listed, for Event
Citing JCCouncil's Kushner

The Alvin L. Kushner
Tribute Dinner Committee
has announced the speakers
who will address the dinner,
which honors Kushner "for
his 10 years of service as
executive director of the
Jewish Community Council
of Metropolitan Detroit"
and which takes place 6:30
p.m. Oct. 6 at Adat Shalom
Synagogue.
Chairman of the program
is Rhea Appelman. Among
the other chairmen are:
Rose S-chwartz, decorations;
Ida Rosenblum, publicity;
and Matilda Rubin and
David Lebenbom, patrons
and sponsors.
Speakers include former
Congressman William
Brodhead; Horace Sheffield,
president of the Detroit
Association of Black Organ-
izations; Judge Avern
Cohn, president of the
Jewish Welfare Federation;
Albert D. Chernin, execu-
tive vice chairman of the
National Jewish Commu-
nity Relations Advisory
Committee; Emanuel Zip-
pori, consul general of Is-
rael to the Midwest; David
Lebenbom, council
president; and Marian
Shifman and Judge John H.
Shepherd, past council
presidents.
Chairman of the Na-

Sen. Carl Levin
Has an Opponent

A former one-term Con-
gressman from East Lans-
ing, Jim Dunn, has declared
his candidcay to run as the
Republican opponent
against Sen. Carl Levin.
In 1980, Dunn defeated
incumbent Rep. Bob Carr,
but Carr defeated Dunn in
1982. Dunn said Levin is too
liberal and "out of touch
with the people of Michi-
gan."
