Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

DICTIONARIES ARE
bought and sold every day
. . . yet many of us lack the
knowledge of good word
meanings . . . Brother Mar-
vin Raskin tells an oldie
about the young student
who overheard the word
"pregnant" . . . He asked the
teacher what it meant and
was promptly told, "To
carry a child" . . . "Now sup-
pose you give us a sentence
with the word in it," said the
teacher . . . The youngster
gulped and answered, "The
fireman climbed a ladder
into a burning orphanage
and came down pregnant."
BELATED CON-
GRATS . . . to Jean Broo-
kenthal . . . on her ? birth-
day . . . to Rose Bobroff .. .
on her 86th birthday.
WHEN DR. ALLAN
WEISS came to Detroit
from Laguna Beach, Calif.,
one of the biggie reasons
was first Vernor School re-
union, 1955-1965 classes
. . . attended by over 500 at
Kensington Park.
But the second reason
was biggest . . . joining over
100 family and friends in a
shocking surprise 40th
wedding anniversary Sun-
day brunch at Dimitri's of
Southfield . . . for parents
Ruth and Harold Weiss.
Affair was planned two
months ahead, by Allan and
wife Geri, 3,000 miles away,
together with Ruth and
Harold's daughter here,
Fran Susan Weiss . . . and
their other son here, Milton
Weiss.
Uncle Irving Feldman
flew in from Encino, Calif.
. . . Edith Hoffman, on hand
with hubbie Bernie, sang
"My Man" to Harold like the
days of yesteryears at old
Jewish War Veterans on
Davison.

When cousin Rabbi Lane
Barry Steinger of Temple
Emanu-El showed up,
Harold said, "I want to
marry her over again."
GET WELL WISHES

located in Los Angeles to
pursue his career in adver-
tising . . . 27-year-old David
bids warm goodbye to
Simons-Michaelson-Zieve
Advertising, where he
started in the mailroom
over four years ago and
worked up to an account
executive position . . . Also
to brother-in-law Mark Rid-

WHAT KIND OF fabrics
do you sell to an eskimo? .. .
That's the recent puzzler of
Ernest Drucker and Execu-
tive Custom Shirtmakers in
Birmingham . . . Ernest is
gaining national and inter-
national reputation . . . the
call from Alaska for infor-
mation about his shirts is
among many from other
parts of the globe . . . Can a
dress shirt be made out of
heavy flannel?

Detroit in 1971 and settled
in New. Orleans. Each Mon-
day for the past six years,
the mailman delivers my
copy of The Jewish News
and I always get a lump in
my throat. I have heard
stories from my parents
about Pingree and. 12th
Street (I remember the
Cream of Michigan) and all
the old places. I grew up on
Dexter and Linwood.
"Those days are gone
forever and let's face it, we
can't even go back for a visit

the lump in my throat for
