year history have retired to

The dinner also will fea-

to Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Friedman. The couple es-
tablished the Moshe and
Sarah Friedman Endowed
Fund for Yiddish Teacher
Education at Bar-Ilan.
Dr. Rackman has
served as Bar-Ilan
president since 1977, at
which time he left New
York to take up full-time
residence in Ramat Gan.
He received his rabbinic
training at Yeshiva Uni-
versity, was graduated from
Columbia Law School and
holds a doctorate in political
science from Columbia
University. He was rabbi of
the Fifth Avenue
Synagogue in New York
City, served as professor of
Jewish studies and consul-
tant to the chancellor of the
City University of New
York on Jewish studies, and
as adjunct professor of
Jewish law at the New York
University Law School.
Dr. Rackman has been a
member of the board of gov-
'ernors of the Jewish
Agency, past president of
the New York Board of
Rabbis and of the Rabbini-
cal Council of America, and
holds the rank of chaplain
(colonel) in the United
States Air Force Reserve.
Dr. Rackman is author of
"Israel's Emerging Con-
stitution, One Man's
Judaism," and of many es-
says published in Commen-
tary, Judaism, and other
scholarly journals. He also
writes a column in Jewish
Week.
