Detroiter Krickstein Headed
for Top of Tennis World?

Aaron Krickstein, the
16-year-old Detroiter who
stunned the tennis world
last week with his upset vic-
tory over Vitas Gerulaitis at
the U.S. Open, seems de-
termined not to let his new-
found celebrity status get
the best of him.
Krickstein is "a very in-
troverted person," accord-
ing to Bob Wood, varsity
tennis coach at
University-Liggett in
Grosse Pointe, where the
tennis phenom has attended
school for the past two
years. "On the court and off,
he's serious and profes-
sional and business like. He
just goes about his business
and gets it done."
Krickstein is the son of
Dr. Herbert Krickstein, a
pathologist at St. John Hos-
pital. The family has long
held membership at Temple
Beth El.
Earlier this summer,
Krickstein became the
youngest player ever to win
the U.S. 18-and-under Na-
tional Championship.

the Southfield Community

Mrs. Cooper is a member
of the Speakers Bureau of
the Detroit Institute of Arts,
an artist and has been an

The city of Oak Park rec-
reation department will
offer a microwave cooking
class, "Get the Most Out of
Your Microwave," at 1 and 7
p.m. Wednesdays, begin-
ning Oct. 19.
The classes will be taught
by Norma Schonwetter at
the Oak Park Community
Center. There is a fee.
