75 FRANKLIN ROAD AT NORTHWESTERN & 12 MILE • Southfield
between Jim Cornelius'
Knife and Fork Club and
the locker room at what was
then known as Briggs
Stadium or Olympia was
purely intentional . . . The
place abounded with stars of
the Lions, Tigers, Red
Wings, Pistons and here
and there may be seen some
of the stars of the college
world.
Cornelius, whose golf
swing was as smooth as his
line of chatter, patently
encouraged and wooed the
patronage of these athletes
. . . The menu listed such
luncheon specials as the
Jack Adams, the Sid Abel,
the Buddy Parker, the
Jimmy Dykes, etc. . . .
These were usually hearty
things like corned beef
sandwiches with Swiss
cheese, or jumbo-sized
hamburgers.
As might be expected, the
dinner menu leaned heavily
to beef in all forms . .. Big,
thick juicy steaks in all
•price ranges were a spe-
cialty, as was roast beef .. .
Our companion at a dinner
there had a $7.50 steak that
left her on the ropes and she
could eat steak with the best
of the Lions' defensive line
. . . I used to love a dish
there . . . stuffed breast of
pheasant with wild rice,
orange burgundy sauce and
wine jelly . . . It topped simi-
lar dishes I had ordered in
French-type restaurants
specializing in such food.

WASHINGTON (JTA) --
Elie Wiesel, chairman of the
U.S. Holocaust Memorial
Council, has announced the
establishment of two new
committees.
The Second Generation
Advisory Committee, which
will serve as a conduit for
input from children of sur-
vivors into the work of the
Council, is chaired by
Menahem Rosensaft. The
Committee on Anti-
Semitism, which will deal
with the alarming rise of
anti-Semitism and will
recommend to Wiesel ways
in which the council can
combat this resurgence, is
chaired by council member
Kalman Sultanik.
