Gallup poll taken in July
shows that 81 percent of
Americans familiar with
the issue favor a Constitu-
tional amendment in sup-
port of voluntary group
prayer in U.S. public
schools.
Fourteen percent of those
polled said they opposed the
idea and five percent were
undecided.
The results of the new
poll, released last week,
were identical to a May
1982 poll which followed
President Reagan propos-
ing the Constitutional
amendment.
