American Independence

Hayden spoke of the

working in the kibutzim,
planted the trees and
made the desert fruitful.
These are the kind of
people Henry Fonda

Hayden said.

versity, the FBI files con-
tained a host of unsubstan-
tiated allegations against
Einstein, including that he
was affiliated with 30
Communist groups, had in-
vented a mind-control
machine and was involved
with the Lindbergh kidnap-
ping case.
According to FBI re-
cords, the Einstein file
was started because
someone alleged that the
scientist's Berlin office
was used by Soviet
agents in the 1930s.
Prof. Schwartz obtained
the file under the Freedom
of Information Act for a
study on the effects of poli-
tics on science.

Negotiations Stall
at Akiva Day School

(Continued from Page 1)
could cut a teacher who
taught four classes last
year to two this year, and
to one in 1985.
School negotiators and
parents of Akiva students
have said that the current
rules allow teachers to
teach the same students for
two or three consecutive
years. They claim the cer-
tification - rule allows
teachers who are certified in
an area, but not necessarily
qualified in a specific
course, to teach the course
in place of a more qualified
but less-senior teacher.
Susan Marwil, president
of the Akiva teachers union,
said she believes the
school's negotiating policy
was conceived months ago
"to make proposals so re-
gressive that we would be
forced to quit."

She charged the school's
stance will destroy Jewish
education. "Who will want
to teach Jewish children
and be faced with this?" she
said. Mrs. Marwil said the
"scab" teachers include two
former Akiva students who
are now in college and un-
qualified to teach at the
school.
Attorney Steven Co-
hen, who until this week
was chief negotiator for
the school and is still a
member of the bargain-
ing team, said he was
pleased at the progress
made at Sunday's
negotiating session on
one issue.

Mrs. Marwil said she

called Fishman on Tuesday
and sent him a mailgram
saying the teachers were
willing to negotiate "any
time, any place." She said
she has received no re-
sponse.
Earlier this week, the
striking teachers estab-
lished a free school in the
Oak Park home of Rabbi
and Mrs. Shaul Broner for
the students of Akiva par-
ents who wished to honor
their picket line. On Mon-
day and Tuesday, the alter- -
native school reportedly
had eight students.
Mrs. Marwil charged that
the teachers' position was
"misrepresented" at a meet-
ing of Akiva parents on
Sunday evening. The
teachers were planning to
send . a letter to the Akiva
parents this week, outlining
their position.
