Beside Manhattan's waters We sat and dined — white tie on, While waiters whirled around us As we remembered Zion Dale and Debbie Adelson Eric and Elyse And The Entire Crew at $825 -$975 BOYS' KNIT SHIRTS he dealt with current af- fairs, concentrating for example on the struggle against Britain's anti- immigration policy in the 1940s (some of his censored poems were distributed by hand). His "Seventh Col- umn" in the daily Davar was the main vehicle for these poems. But he was also a highly sophisticated modern poet, lyricist and playwright, considered as one of the greatest in the Hebrew re- vival. The poem "Zionizing," translated by Prof. Marie Syrkin, is an example of Al- terman's uncompromising treatment of a topical theme. And yet a demonstration Immensely more effective Had been some single ges- ture To follow up invective. If but one Wall Street broker Had trudged down to the sea To board the ship, sore- footed Like any refugee. Amid the whole five million Scarce a few hundred rose, To pack up bag and business And swanky evening clothes. Growing Trade The Financial Times of London reported in January that Israeli exports to Lebanon have "taken a quantum leap" since the in- vasion in June 1982. The Times quoted an Israel army spokesman as es- timating that Israel's trade with Lebanon was averag- ing $20 million a month. Setback for NJA The New Jewish Agenda was denied membership in June by the Jewish Com- munity Council of Greater Washington when the dele- gate assembly voted 98-70 against admission. The council's executive board had earlier overwhelmingly approved membership for the Jewish Agenda. There is a great difference between a good physician and a bad one; yet very little difference between a bad one and none at all. —Arthur Young 29117 Northwestern at 12 Mile Franklin Plaza, Southfield 357-4771 C RElt ( 14/I.J.fiE5, fol. a c7Val2/2,9 = Ntw Eat THE GORNBEIN FAMILY AND STAFF Carl and Myra Gornbein Mark Gornbein • Fay Fries Norman Gornbein Arline Allen • Arthur Greenwald • Frankie Fish Susan Fox • Lillian DeRoven Nina Eisenberg • Nancy Zausmer 357-1056 SUITE 110 — HERITAGE PLAZA 24901 NORTHWESTERN HWY.
