the agricultural and
technological acumen of 51
countries.
The accent at the fair will
be decidedly Israeli and
many Israeli-developed and
produced items are expected
to compete strongly for the
limelight. For example,
there's a multi-purpose
tractor based on the hydros-
tatic designs of the U.S.
lunar vehicle and Israel's
new Merkava battle tank.
Produced by Granot, the
new farm vehicle is a key to
Israel's Row Cultivation
Program. In this program,
permanent tracks are set in
fields for the tractor to fol-
low, thereby eliminating
the problem of crushing and
of damage to irrigation
equipment.
A new feed mixer, pro-
duced by Lachish Indus-
tries, will also be fea-
tured. The mixer takes
over the entire job of
feeding livestock and
combines any variety of
livestock feeds (grass

pheromones — natural
scents which serve as sexual
attractants; Israelis now
use pheromones as a means
of attracting pest insects
into traps, thereby protect-
ing agriculture without the
use of toxic pesticides.
Many other fields will be
represented, such as: Israeli
developed and produced
items in agrochemicals and
chemigation, new systems
for harvesting and sorting,
advances in computer ap-
plications for agriculture,
greenhouse developments
and biomass-oriented al-
ternative energy produc-
tion.

In addition to the world-
class agricultural exhibi-
tion, Agritech '83 will also
host two important confer-
ences — the Third Interna-
tional Conference on Irriga-
tion, and the International
Workshop on Novel Ap-
proaches in Plant Protec-
tion - Ideas and Applica-
tions.

An Aliya Bet illegal immigrant ship is shown defy-
ing the British by unloading refugees on the shores of
pre-state Israel. The refugees would merge with the
local population waiting on the beach in order to es-
cape British searches.
