overseas agencies are con-
fronting new challenges to
their already strained
budgets," Berry said. "The
generous promises of De-
troit's Jewish community
are greatly appreciated, but
they won't buy the social
services needed so desper-
ately. by our fellow Jews."

the collection review
committee. "The needs
for cash are particularly
great at this time of year,"
he said. "As we approach
the end of the Jewish
year, we are reminded of
the mitzva of tzedaka be-
fore Rosh Hashana." His
committee is working to
encourage contributors
to meet their year-long
commitment with in-
creased payments.
Campaign volunteers are
also asking those who have
not yet made a 1983 pledge
to show support of their fel-
low Jews at this time with a
cash gift to the Allied
Jewish Campaign.

for the Chicago Council on
Foreign Relations and pub-
lished in the spring issue of
Foreign Policy magazine
indicated that while there
has not been "any substan-
tial damage" to Israel's sup-
port in the U.S. due to the
invasion of Lebanon, there
has been "a modest in-
crease" in sympathy among
Americans for the Arabs
and in particular the Pales-
