Reagan Hits Settlements Again

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
President Reagan, in his
regular Saturday radio ad-
dress to the American
people, reiterated his belief
that Israel's West Bank set-
tlement policy posed "an ob-
stacle to peace" in the Mid-
dle East.

In his address, delivered
from his ranch house near
Santa Barbara, Calif., Re-
agan declared that "the fu-
ture of these settlements
can only be dealt with
through direct negotiations
between the parties to the
conflict. The sooner these

Riyadh Radio critically
reported the decision of
Prime Minister Margaret
Thatcher appointing "a
Jewish businessman and a
supporter of the Israeli
enemy as chairman of the

That initiative, rejected
by Israel, called for
negotiations involving
Israel and Jordan and
leading to the eventual
establishment of an au-
tonomous Palestinian
entity in the West Bank in
association with Jordan.

The initiative, which also
criticized the West Bank
settlements, was considered
dead since Jordan refused to
participate last April.

Teheran Radio added: "In
light of these remarks,

dependence of the BBC on
international Zionism, we
do not expect from them
anything except hostility,

Reagan also made it clear
that he feels his Mideast
peace initiative, which he
offered last year and which
has been viewed in diploma-
tic circles here and abroad
as having failed, "is defi-
nitely alive and available to
those parties willing to sit

The Iranian media
coupled its attack on Young
with a general tirade
against the "satanic and
anti-Islamic character" of
the BBC which along with
other "lie-spinning prop-
aganda media" are con
trolled by "international
Zionism."

chairman of the board of

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
The three Israeli manufac-
turers of shofarim for Rosh
Hashana and Yom Kippur
have sold an unprecedented
10,000 ram's horns this
High Holy Day season.
The record number takes
on added significance with
the drop in orders, because

According to shofar pro-

recent rise, in tourism
