Sept. 4 and 5. Local telethon
hosts will be J.P. McCarthy,
WJR radio personality; and
George Sells, Channel 2 TV
news anchorman.
The 22-hour telethon, bil-
led this year as the "Extra
Special Special," will begin
at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 4 and run
continuously to 6:30 p.m.
Sept. 5.
WJBK-TV will "cut
away" from the network
show for 15 minutes each
hour for local segments
which will be co-hosted by
McCarthy and Sells. These
local segments will feature
numerous sports figures,
local personalities and
community leaders, as well
as providing updated re-
ports on Detroit-area
pledges.

The "Extra Special
Special" will originate
live from Caesars Palace
in Las Vegas, and will be
telecast by some 200
"Love Network" stations
around the country.
MDA National Chairman
Jerry Lewis will be
joined by co-hosts Ed
McMahon and Casey
Kasem.

Entertainers to be fea-
tured this year include
Sammy Davis, Jr., Wayne
Newton, Tony Orlando, Lit-
tle Richard, Ben Vereen,
Andy Williams, David
Brenner, Irene Cara, Charo,
Vic Damone, Chad Everett,
Lola Falana and many
others.
Appearing with Lewis in
Las Vegas will be six-year-
old Christopher Rush, of
Rochester, the 1983 MDA
national poster child.
Money raised by the show
enables MDA to continue its
worldwide research efforts

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Chaim :;Grade has been
posthumously awarded the
first Harold Ribalow Prize
for "Rabbis and Wives," a
collection of novellas pub-
lished in November 1982
just after his death.
This marks the first an-
nual award of the prize
which honors the best work
of fiction on a Jewish theme
in a given year. The $500
award, administered by
Hadassah magazine, was
established in memory of
the writer, anthologist and
literary critic.
The award was given to
Grade's widow, Inna Hecker
Grade, a co-translator of
"Rabbis and Wives," at the
closing luncheon of the 69th
annual convention of
Hadassah here.
