Members of these congre- gations will be asked to pur- chase Israel Bonds and then to buy the new $250 Israel certificates being offered by the Bond organization. The new $250 certifi- cates have been designed to help build Israel's economy and to encour- age tourism to Israel, especially among the young. They can be cashed by a visitor to Is- rael for $300 after 30 months and $360 after 60 months (five years). If not taken to Israel, they can be cashed after five years by the registered owner. The tab card which will be used in this year's appeal bears the slogan "For Israel and the Young." Congreg- ants will indicate their reg- ular purchases by pressing a tab on the front cover. In- Side the card are four tabs for additional purchases of the new certificates. Rabbi Wagner Accepts Post at New York Young Israel CANTOR HYMAN ADLER emeritus following services Sept. 3. Cantor Adler was born in the old city of Jerusalem in 1911. A descendant of can- tors, Cantor Adler served congregations in New York and Cleveland before corn- ing to Detroit to serve as cantor of Bnai David in 1945. In addition to his years of service at Bnai David, Can- tor Adler has been affiliated with Jewish War Veterans, Mosaic Lodge of the Ma- sons, Hebrew Benevolent Society, Jewish Home for the Aged, League of Jewish Women, Hannah Schloss Old Timers and the Cul- tural Group of the Jewish Community Center. Rabbi Wagner, who studied at Yeshiva Kerem B'Yavne in Israel and re- ceived his semikha at the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brook, lyn, N.Y., has served as rabbi of Young Israel of Greenfield for the past eight years. Torahs Given to Israelis NEW YORK — Leaders of the Young Israel move- ment in the United States and Israel pre- sented to the chief chap- lain of the Israeli army two Torah scrolls. They came from Cong. Anshe Soda La- van, which recently closed its doors in South Philadel- phia due to its changing neighborhood, and re- quested that its Torahs be sent to Israel. The transfer was arranged through the Eretz Israel Commission of the National Council of Young Israel, which also sent one of the synagogue's Torah scrolls of the Young Israel Claremont Parkway - Givat Shaul in Jerusalem. Rabbi Wagner, his wife Bina and children Bracha, Chaim, Chana and Sara, will move to New York fol- lowing the High Holidays. The Young Israel of Greenfield is planning a farewell dinner in honor of Rabbi and Mrs. Wagner. It will take place Tuesday at Young Israel of Oak-Woods. Chairman of the evening is Manny Mittelman.
