TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
Israel Defense Force
pullback from the Shouf
mountain area and the
main Beirut-Damascus
highway will begin Sunday
and be completed by the eve
of Rosh Hashana on Sept. 7,
■ according to reports from
Beirut.
But Israeli army spokes-
men declined to comment on
the report, saying that the
date of the IDF pullback
will be published "in due
time."
Meanwhile, a high Egyp-
tian official said that Israel
"is under obligation to
withdraw" from Lebanon
and taht this should take
place "in accordance with a
timetable," according to re-
ports reaching Jerusalem
from Cairo.
The official, Egyptian
Presidential foreign ad-
viser Osama Baz, said
after a 90-minute meeting
between Robert McFar-
lane, President Reagan's
special Middle East
envoy, and President
Hosni Mubarak that
Egypt "would like to
strengthen the hands of
Lebanon to exercise its
sovereignty and we be-

lieve that an early with-
drawal by Israel followed
by other withdrawals (of
Syrian and PLO troops)
is the best guarantee for

'Where Fit is Foremost . '

the return of normality in
that country."
This, he told reporters,
has been and will continue
to be Egypt's position.
