Welfare Federation and the
University of Michigan,
will investigate the needs of
elderly Jewish persons liv-
ing independently.
The survey aims to assess
respondents' knowledge
and use of community serv-
ices designed for senior citi-
zens. They also will be
asked about types of com-
munity services for which
they perceive a need and
that are presently not
available.
From survey results,
planners and policy-
makers will be able to de-
velop guidelines for the
development or expan-
sion of those services that
would enable older
adults to continue living
in their own homes.
Responses can also pro-
vide data for community
and government leaders in
their efforts to introduce
and influence changes in
the legislature relevant to
older age groups.
The survey sample of the
people to be interviewed
will be developed by the
University of Michigan,
School of Public Health,
Department of Epidemiol-
ogy.
The interviews will be
conducted by trained
volunteers who have
been chosen from the
ranks of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation's
Women's Division and
the Sinai Hospital Guild.
Ellen Labes, president of
Women's Division and
Dolores Farber, vice
president; Joyce Sher-
man and Donna Macklin,

co-chairmen of Federa-
tion's Women's Division
task force committee;
Leah Snider, president of
the Sinai Hospital Guild;
and Marjorie Federman,
chairman of volunteers
for the guild, have coor-

urging them to consider the
purchase of Northrop F-20
and General Dynamics
F-16/J79 planes, according
Aviation Week and Space
Technology magazine.
The Defense Department
has offered to send teams to
the states involved and pro-

WASHINGTON — Egypt
is pressing the Soviet Union
to re-open supply lines for
aircraft and missile spare
parts to support its large in-
ventory of Soviet-built
weapon systems, Aviation
Week and Space Technol-
ogy magazine reported last
month.
Some limited Soviet
technical assistance could
come later this year if Egypt
allows the Soviets •to re-
assign an ambassador to
Cairo, the magazine said.
The late Egyptian
President Anwar Sadat
asked the Soviet ambas-
sador to leave Egypt in Sep-
tember 1981.
