lion copies) in June . . . He'll

MAIL DEPT.-... "We're
writing this letter to tell
how disappointed we are
with the Southfield gov-
ernment. Don't they really
care about the small busi-
ness person? It's public in-
formation that Pickle
Barrel delicatessen was de-
nied its liquor license. Why?
Because the city admits it
wants to save four for the
"big" companies who may
come to Southfield. No
commitments from them.
But just in case! The fact
that our restaurant has
been here almost nine years
obviously doesn't 'count.
"What is not public
knowledge is that Pickle
Barrel also requested a sign
variance because we are
hidden way in the back of
the Evergreen Shopping
Center. Without proper ex-
posure, we could not attract
normal transient traffic or
late business. This, too, we
were denied because of the
current ordinance.
"We care about South-
field. We have been in busi-
ness for almost nine years,
members of the Chamber of
Commerce, live here and
sponsor athletic teams.
Why can't Southfield care
about us?"
Jack Balter and
Alex Winkler
Pickle Barrel
Delicatessen-Restaurant _
IF THERE WERE THE
proper lobby tactics in Lans-
ing,-chances would be much
better that more tavern lic-
enses could be issued by the
state of Michigan ... . These
do not count against city's
census quota . . . Beer and
wine could be served at just
about every delicatessen
that wants it.
"J.T.'S — A CAFE" is
new name for Marvin's N.Y.
Deli on Telegraph north of
12 Mile . . . next to Jacques
Seafood.
GETTING INTO THE
jazzy spirit of the
Montreux-Detroit Kool Jazz
Festival is easy . . . captur-
ing the real "flavor" of the
event is quite another thing
. . . The Summit restaurant
at Westin Hotel will try
with a Swiss Foods Festival,
Aug. 29 through Sept. 6 .
