She wrote it to aid others and also as a catharsis to help herself. She began the book because she wanted to share her wonderful feelings about breast reconstruction. She felt compelled to share her miracle with other women, to tell them that her self- esteem and her femininity had been restored. She allowed the reader into her life, to know her family and friends and how she managed her daily life through her surgeries and treatments for cancer. Although she wrote of her pain and fear and bitter- ness, she did so with warmth and humor. Her positive outlook is an encouragement to everyone, particularly in light of the fact that her cancer has metastasized (spread) to her spine. •Right now her cancer is in remission and she is free of pain. She is a whole woman busy with life. She wants her readers to be encouraged by her miracles and also profit from her mis- takes. Unfortunately many women have such dread of the disease and of disfig- urement that they refuse to educate themselves about their options if they should ever have to face breast cancer. Every woman — and their families — should read 'Marilyn Gonte's book. It was written by the authoress with a two-fold purpose: to tell women that with early detection the prognosis for breast cancer can be positive and that a deformity can be corrected through reconstruction. However, the main ob- jective seems to be to make women aware, knowledgeable and un- afraid of asking ques- tions and seeking alter- natives when it concerns their body and well- being.
