Sinai, Kingswood Hospital
Merge Psychiatric Services

Sinai Hospital of Detroit
a general hospital, and
Kingswood Hospital, a
psychiatric hospital, have
announced a plan to
enhance the psychiatric
services they offer through
an agreement of formal af-
filiation.
According to statements
from Sinai President Max-
well Jospey and Kingswood
Board President Wilbert
Roberts, the affiliation
combines the existing re-
sources and talents of two
major providers of psychiat-
ric services and provides the
base on which they can
build new comprehensive
programs of patient care,
community education and
research,
Under the terms of the af-
filiation, Sinai and Kings-
wood Hospitals will remain
independent organizations,
each responsible for estab-
lishing its own corporate
policy.
Sinai Hospital, located
at 6767 W. Outer Drive in
Detroit, has offered
psychiatric care since
1961. Under the direction
of Department Chairman
Dr. Norman Rosenzweig,
the service grew to in-
clude a 37-bed adult in-
patient unit; 15 convales-
cent beds; an Outpatient
service for treatment of
ambulatory patients;
short-term outpatient
therapy; and liaison psy-
chiatry, a means of pro-
viding psychiatric sup-
port services to facilitate
the care of medical and
surgical in-patients.
Sinai also sponsors a fully
approved four-year resident
training program in psy-
chiatry.
Kingswood Hospital, lo-
cated at 10300 W. Eight
Mile, Ferndale, has pro-
vided short-term acute
psychiatric care since it
opened in 1966. In 1977, fol-
lowing a major expansion
program, the hospital
opened a 36-bed
adolescent/young adult
program, a first for
hospital-based programs in
southeastern Michigan.
Kingswood also provides
a clinical setting for the
training of students in the
health and human services.
