THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, August 5, 1983 41 Plans Are Unveiled for HMC With scaffolding and gir- ders forming the backdrop for a unique gathering, in- ternationally acclaimed museum designer James Gardner unveiled his plans for the Holocaust Memorial Center of Detroit. Gardner, who came from London for the occasion, projected drawings of the HMC's interior for a group of community leaders and supporters of the HMC. The exterior of the building, which is adjacent to the main Jewish Community Center, is all but com- pleted. The major exhibits, study area, memorial ramp and other features of the interior will be in use by next summer. Guests at the reception learned of the many unique aspects of the Holocaust Memorial Center, which is assuming national propor- tions with Gardner's in- volvement. Gardner was the designer of Beit Hatefutsoth, the Musuem of the Diaspora, in Tel Aviv. More than a museum of the Holocaust, the HMC is envisioned as a "living" institution where visitors will find information on the destroyed com- munities and where they can learn from the past BI-FOLD SUPER SPECIAL. 4 ft. openings 5 ft. openings 6 ft. openings $113.99 Installed $118.99 Installed $135.99 Installed NEW MIRRORED BI-FOLD DOORS—FINEST QUALITY Slim.FoldaR Shown at the Holocaust Memorial Center recep- tion are, from left, designer James Gardner, and Lawrence Jackier, David Mondry and Marvin Goldman. via video and computer technology.
