Israel Museum Exhibition
Is Tribute to Bezalel School

JERUSALEM — Some
1,500 objects, creating
quantitatively the largest
exhibition ever mounted at
the Israel Museum, afford a
comprehensive overview of
local art at the start of the
century.
The Bezael School for Art
and Crafts, named for
Bezael Ben Uri, the first ar-
tist mentioned in the Bible,
was founded by the roman-
tic visionary Boris Schatz in
1906. His goal was to estab-
lish a center for art which
would attract Jewish artists
from the Diaspora and local
students.
The items in the exhibi-
tion were produced during
1906-1929. in Bezalel's 30
