Jewish Idea Urged Boycott of Campaign Editor, The Jewish News: In the "Purely Commen- tary," July 15, reference was made that "the ADL and NJA have been on re- cord urging the boycott of the major funds." Please note that it was our organization, the Jewish Idea, not the JDL, which urged the boycott of the Allied Jewish Cam- paign and the Jewish Wel- fare Federation. We did so because we found that these two charitable organiza- tions blatantly disregarded the Jewish trust. They spent money donated for charitable purposes on political programs. By sponsoring Sisco and Linowitz they promoted at- tacks on the state of Israel with Jewish money. Because of this misuse of charitable funds, the Jewish Idea urged a boycott of the AJC and JWF. But we did not boycott the indi- vidual charities. We urged that all money be donated directly to their favorite charity. We even listed all of those charities. The action by the Jewish Idea is appropriate in the light of such diversion of charitable funds. And until the AJCampaign and JWF restrict their activities to charitable purposes we will continue to urge the Jewish community to boycott them and donate directly. The teacher is also the mayor of the commu- nity. - A gentleman incensed by the actions of this bigoted teacher sponsored a contest among the students. He of- fered a paid trip for two to Germany for an on-sight in- spection. Two students re- turned to confirm that the Holocaust did indeed take place. (In spite of this, more than half of the townspeople still support the teacher- mayor.) The man who provided the trip to Germany ap- peared on television and was highly critical of the bigots in the community. tellectuals who write their material from the under- ground. The Hungarian govern- ment is aware of the exist- ence of this group. One of them, Miklosh Arasti, wrote a book "The Award of Silence." When he submit- ted to the authorities the manuscript, he was ar- rested on the spot and sen- tenced to three years im- prisonment. He was re- leased after eight months.
