NEW YORK (JTA) — A 13-year-old eighth grader at a Greensboro, N.C. school is probably the first black Jewish Bat Mitzva in the south, according to a report in the July newsletter of the Center Conference of American Rabbis, the asso- ciation of Reform rabbis. The newsletter reported that Afrique Isabel Kilamanjaro recently cele- brated "her coming of age by becoming Bat Mitzva at Temple Emanuel, with Rabbi Arnold Task conduct- ing the religious services."
