NEW YORK (JTA) — An
official of one of the agencies
organizing a nation-wide
conference to deal with the
decline in the Jewish birth
rate, has predicted that by
the year 2000, the _Ameri-
can Jewish community will
be reduced by about 25 per-
cent.
The prediction was made
by Yehuda Rosenman, di-
rector of the Jewish com-

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
13-year-old eighth grader at
a Greensboro, N.C. school is
probably the first black
Jewish Bat Mitzva in the
south, according to a report
in the July newsletter of the
Center Conference of
American Rabbis, the asso-
ciation of Reform rabbis.
The newsletter reported
that Afrique Isabel
Kilamanjaro recently cele-
brated "her coming of age by
becoming Bat Mitzva at
Temple Emanuel, with
Rabbi Arnold Task conduct-
ing the religious services."
Most black Jews are Or-
thodox and do not recognize
the role of women in con-
ducting religious services,"
according to the Reform
newsletter.

presidency of Israel, that
the distinguished states-
man was also a Maccabi ac-

Bernbaum wrote to con-
gratulate him and share
with him his sports
enthusiasm.
Bernbaum received a
reply from Shulamit Nardi,
an assistant to the Israeli
president, which stated:
