You know that you're Jewish. You feel Jewish. But you don't feel religious. Prayer and worship aren't the answer for you. You may be one of us — a Jewish Humanist. At the Birmingham Temple, we celebrate Passover, Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanna, Yom Kippur, Purim — twelve holidays in all. We hold Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, confir- mations, Friday night services, Hebrew and Sunday school. We embrace the entire Jewish experience. We respect our ancestors, but we don't revere them. We believe that the Torah and the Bible are important, but the literature of our people didn't stop there. We think Moses and Rabbi Akiva are great Jewish heroes — and so are Freud and Einstein. Emmy Award in a straight dramatic TV performance in "Grandma Didn't Wave Back." * * * ARNON MILCHAN, the Israeli film producer will produce two movies to be released domestically by Universal and overseas by Twentieth Century-Fox. Milchan financed and co- produced the $18 million TV epic, "Masada." In January, Milchan's "Legend" begins filming in England with Ridley Scott directing. It is a romance set in primeval times written by William Hjortsberg. The second film for Universal, entitled "Brazil," has Terry Gilliam of Monty Python as director. It is termed an Or- wellian love story set in 1984. • * * WOODY ALLEN'S new movie, "Zelig," was written by him and directed in the form of a television documentary in which the character of Leonard Zelig reviews his life with satiri- cal wit. The multi-talented Allen, who once more serves as his own writer-director and star, has created a prominent personality, idealized and lionized by the masses of viewers, one who is anxious to conform and in chameleon-fashion turns to become the character he portrays. Though filled with gags, "Zelig" is a profound state- ment on the weaknesses of modern man. Woody Allen has chosen mostly un- knowns for the motley as , sortment of characters. Mia Farrow co-stars in the Jack Rollins.and Charles H. Joffe film produced for Warner/ Orion by Robert Greenhut. ** * BERNARD SCHWARTZ, executive producer of "Psycho II," Universal's sequel to Alfred Hitch- cock's classic gothic thril- ler, "Psycho," has been successful in the cinema for a number of years. His first feature film, "Coal Miner's Daughter," received seven Academy Award nomina- tions, the best actress Oscar for Sissy Spacek and a Gol- den Globe for best picture of 1980. A lawyer by profession, Schwartz produced for Schenck Enterprises over 100 episodes of television's "Alcoa Presents," which is still running in syndication. Above all, Jewishness for us consists in Jewish behavior. Members of the Birmingham Temple live as a warm, car- ing Temple family, guided by rational, commonsense ethics and by our cultural and historic ties to our fellow Jews worldwide. Come and learn more about us. And let us get to know you. We may have a lot in common.
