(Brenda) Glickman of West Michael Zaks Dies at 37, Directed Fresh Air Society Michael I. Zaks, execu- tive director of the Fresh Air Society, who was cre- dited with several major de- velopments in the camping program during his tenure, died July 9 at age 37. In 1968, Mr. Zaks started to work full-time for FAS and the Tamarack Hills Authority. From adminis- trative assistant he became business manager, assis- tant executive director, di- rector of the Ortonville camp, associate executive director and as of June 1981, executive director. Under his stewardship, the Butzel Conference Cen- ter was developed in size and scope, and the Fresh Air Society's family camping concept was broadened. He put special emphasis on the Jewish component of the agency's many camping programs, expanded teen programs, developed new staff training methods and artist/ scholar-in-residence programs. Last January, at the first service held in the new Rabbi Morris B. Adler Chapel at Ortonvil- le's Butzel Conference Center, Mr. Zaks deliv- ered the Sabbath morn- ing remarks. He super- vised every aspect of the chapel's construction. A graduate in mechanical engineering, from Lawr- ence Institute of Technol- ogy, Mr. Zaks was working toward completion of his MBA degree at Wayne State University. He was a member of Cong.
