Din. 4 to 2 a.m. 851-7400 came from Paradiso Cafe then, remains prevalent at Roman Terrace . . . as he still continues to weave his kitchen magic for -go many happy customers. Roman Terrace seats 150 people in an intimately well-appointed restaurant . . . with its stucco walls, louvered shades, soft light- ing, small stained glass, print tablecloths on pad- ding, one wall fully mir- rored, slat beams . . . and cloth napkins gracefully set in tall wine goblets. The outer wall facing Orchard Lake Road will soon come down and ex- pansion will result in this fine restaurant going out onto the terrace with a glass enclosure . . . serving lunch and dinner all year . . . in a sol- arium atmosphere. Bob McDonald and Dana Barich oversee the dining room operation . . . while Robert Fracchia maintains the kitchen . . . Featured are a fresh pasta menu and nightly fish specials . . . Very popular are the dinners for two with com- plimentary glass of wine. As it did 10 years ago, Roman Terrace still pre- pares everything fresh daily . . ravioli, lasagna, etc. . . . trims and bones its own meats under Frank's supervision . . . makes its own spumoni ice cream . . . and canoli filling (whipped custard and Mar- sala wine.) Three rooms at Roman Terrace include a cocktail lounge where Tom Alten- berg plays his fine piano stylings Tuesdays through Saturdays. Our waitress, Helga Ackerman, was excellent . . . so effici ent, pleas- ant and smiling . . . over six years at Roman Terrace . . . People come from all over for Helga's Caesar Salad . . . which we had with great delight as she toiled and tossed at tableside with much gratifying re- sults. Roman Terrace is prob- ably one of the very few places that serve calves liver with both Bernaise sauce and Hollandaise sauce . . . This is truly Northern Italian dining . . . having such a dish with each slice on top of a sauce . . . The linguini with clam sauce is superb . . . amply endowed with oodles of clams . . . And if you like garlic, which is so healthy, have Helga put plenty in the Caesar Salad . . . When ordering the garlic bread with Parmesan cheese, have your Roman Terrace waitress bring it heavy on the garlic. I remember having this at a little, off-beat Italian res- taurant in New York . . . The garliC is saturated throughout and topped with even more . . ...It was so good I've never forgotten . . ., Jack LaRue's in the San Bernardino Valley of California was the closest to this little spot . . . but none yet could compare when it came to true garlic bread. The calves liver plate at Roman Terrace, plus being very good, is also most colorful . . . with slices of lemon and strawberries. Dover sole is another pride at Roman Terrace . . . plus fresh fish spe- cials . . . Its delicate flakiness and flavor were standouts. Bob and Robert are work- ing on a new "carry-out" menu for both Roman Ter- race and its action-filled downstairs "McFrock's" . . . The two fellows never stop promotions of their fun place . . . Last Tuesday was Crab Racing . . . with customers pick- ing their crabs (supplied free by McFrock's) plus naming and training them for the 10 races. Every night at McFrock's is something different . . for a different reason . . . July 25, all day, McFrock's will donate many dollars to Michigan Special Olympics for every case of Little King's beer con- sumed. Back upstairs to Roman Terrace . . . where ele- gant, relaxed dining in a choice atmosphere is pre- dominant. Next time you're ponder- ing about a place to dine, might not be a bad idea to put Roman Terrace atop your list. LARCO BROTHERS . . . (Mark, Mike and Duke) . . . have added bar-b-q ribs to their glowing list of things for carry-out . . . If the ribs are as good as their Italian dishes, the boys have another big win- ner. DON COOK, premier pianist, song stylist and gracious personality gent- leman, is appearing at Dominico's, Coolidge be- tween 11 and 12 Mile in Berkley . . . Friday, Saturday and Sunday . . . The Sunday idea is a good one . . . very few places have fine piano-vocal presentations on this day. BEST BET Of the Weekend . . . by far . . . even though South- field School Board re- fused to allow one day sale of beer (that Stroh's wanted to donate) for charity . . . Great Ket- tle Race and Festival . . . by Chef's 200 Club and March of Dimes . . . noon to 5 p.m. this Sunday . . . at South- field High field . . . Admission $1. Games, races, chariot race, relay race, etc. etc. . . . and lemonade . . . which may not raise the $3,000 or $4,000 extra for birth defects, but will serve (Continued on Page 31)
