THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 2 Soccer Fans Ordered to Learn About Holocaust AMSTERDAM (JTA) — Two youths who shouted anti-Semitic remarks at a soccer game last month have been sentenced by a Rotterdam magistrate to visit sites in Holland asso- ciated with the Holocaust and write essays on their impressions. One must pay a fine. The unusual punishment was imposed by Judge Rosa Lensink Bosman on the two young men, aged 20 and 21, who are fans of the Utrecht Football Club. During a match with the Excelsior Club in Rotter- dam, they shouted "All Jews in the camp must be killed" and other anti- Semitic epithets. Both claimed in court that they were drunk at the time and admitted that they know little or nothing of what happened during the Nazi occupation of Holland. One was sentenced to visit the site of the Wester- brook camp in The Nether- lands where Dutch and other Jews were herded for transportation to death camps in eastern Europe. The other must visit the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and contribute 250 Guilders (about $100) to the Anne Frank Founda- tion. Both must send their essays to the sentencing magistrate. Israelis Refuse Unskilled Jobs JERUSALEM. (ZINS) — Many non-Israeli Arabs are working in Israel in unskil- led jobs because of tougher standards being followed by Israel's job placement serv- ice. Skilled workers must now prove that they have re- ceived skilled training. Be- cause fOrmer soldiers who are unemployed receive 9,000 shekels per month (approximately $250) and the minimum wage for un- skilled jobs is IS 9,900, many are taking unem- ployment benefits instead of working. Many of these low-skill jobs are being taken by Arabs. Some 59,000 Arabs from the administered ter- ritories held jobs in Israel last month. Law Enforcement in Territories May Change JERUSALEM (JNI) — Steps toward a re- evaluation of law enforce- ment in the administered territories were taken last month by a ministerial committee headed by De- fense Minister Moshe Arens. Officials in the Justice Ministry and police have long urged such moves, stat- ing that the legal status of the territories has "hand- cuffed" Israeli law enforce- ment agencies. Criminal law enforcement in the ter- ritories is now handled by a hodge-podge of agencies. Ifs easy to dial direct.
