Detroit Technion Associates at Maas Dorm Dedication

WASHINGTON — What
are believed to be the first
Jewish quintuplets in the
U.S. were born Tuesday at
the George Washington
University Hospital.
The babies, four boys and
a girl, were born seven
weeks premature. They
ranged in weight from 2
pounds 6 ounces to 3 pounds
41/2 ounces.
Parents of the children
are Daniel and Pam Pisner
of Olney, Md. Pisner is un-
employed.

HAIFA, Israel — Faculty
members and students of
the Technion participated
with a large delegation of
Detroiters at the dedication,
June 14, of the Benard L.
Maas Michigan Dormitory.
Erected at a cost of
$600,000, the dormitory is
the fulfillment of one of the
major programs pursued by
the Detroit Chapter of the
American Society for
Technion in recent years.
Nearly half the cost of the
dormitory was contributed
by Maas, who was a guest at
the dedicatory assembly
with the Detroit group,

which was led by Dr. Joseph
Epel, president of the De-
troit Technion Chapter, and
Max Gill, director of the
movement here.
The Michigan Dormitory
is part of Technion's $14
million student housing
construction program. It
will contain 8,000 square
feet of living and working
space and the facility has
accommodations for 36
residents in the four-story
module. Each student has
an individual room and will
be sharing kitchen, living
room and bathroom
facilities with four other
students.
With 8,000 enrolled on
campus, the Technion,
until now, had dormitory
space for only 1,900.

U.S. District Judge Anna
Diggs Taylor has denied the
request of the cities of Lat-
hrup Village and Pleasant
Ridge and several
synagogues to block con-
struction of the final,
eight-mile-long leg of the
1-696 expressway.
The plantiffs had asked
the judge to order the state
to improve existing mile
roads rather than complete
the freeway, in an effort to
save neighborhoods.
Participants in the suit
included Cong. Beth Jacob
Mogain Abraham and
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
