Sculptor to Exhibit at Jewish Center

Sculptor
Leonard
Schwartz will exhibit his
works at the main Jewish
Community Center from
July 6 to 31. During July,
Schwartz, will be on staff at
the Center teaching classes

Following graduation
from Central High School

Upon discharge, he

and with Josef Albers at
Black Mountain College,
North Carolina, and Ossip
Zadkine in Paris.
His first professional
one-man show of
sculpture was held in
Paris in 1948. In 1949, at
age 25, he was awarded a
Guggenheim Fellowship.
Schwartz has had more
than 40 one-man shows, in-
cluding three in New York,
four in London, eight in De-

Houston, four in Seattle,

elsewhere.
His work is in numerous
private and public collec-

and been director and
chairman of sculpture and
art departments in the
United States and England
for 20 years.
In 1960, a Jewish Center
committee commissioned
Schwartz to carve a five-ton
sculpture, now placed in
front of the Center. It is ti-
tled "Offering."
