Makdooce Eggplant (egg-
plant stuffed with wal-
nuts and garlic,' pickled in
olive oil) . . . Naturally, a
Taboolee Salad and Hoomus
with Tahini.
We were glad to have
tasted the Shish Tawook
(chicken breast marinated
in olive oil and garlic,
cooked over charcoal), Shish
Kabob and Shish Kafta
(ground lamb cooked on
skewers over charcoal) .. .
The rice pudding was quite
different . . . with walnuts,
honey and a touch of rose-
water . . . Phoenicia has al-
ways been good . . . It's bet-
ter now.
THE 46-MEMBER Ben
. Sherman Middle School
Band struck up a Sousa
march at Holly, Mich. re-
cently, opening ceremonies
in which history buffs dedi-
cated the new/old east porch
just restored at historic
Holly Hotel.
The porch had been de-
stroyed along with much of
the hotel in the fire of 1913
. . . and a replacement porch
was again destroyed in the
fire of .1978.
When new owners Leslie
and Sydelle Sher, Jim Hilty
and George Kutlenios re-
stored the rest of the hotel in
1979, they didn't include
the quaint, two-story Victo-
rian structure's porch .. .
Now restored, it matches a
sketch of what the hotel
looked like before the first
catastrophic fire of 1913,
except for four chimneys.
Historic Holly Hotel is lo-
cated on Battle Alley, which
took its name from the
many saloons and street
brawls between rowdy lum-
bermen and railroad work-
ers of last century.
Battle Alley's bars are no
longer . . . Victorian store
fronts have been beautifully
restored and transformed
into boutiques and food
shops to serve the steady
stream of tourists and his-
tory buffs who come to
Holly.
PORTION OF PRO-
CEEDS from Third Annual
Father's Day Brunch Sun-
day, 10:30-3:30, at Michi-
gan Inn, J.L. Hudson Drive,

troit . . . This year there will
be "Salute to Dads of Yes-
terday and Today" . . . with
big screen TV in - lobby
showing the classic film,
"Life With Father" ... plus
clips from "Father Knows
Best," "My Three Sons" and
