JWV State Commander

- TO NAME A FEW:

Berkley said Ritenour
suggested that the veterans
have a telethon or other
fund-raising project as an
alternative to poppy sales in
the streets. Berkley said al-
ternative fund-raising
methods would be too ex-
pensive for . the veterans
groups.
Berkley said all the vete-
rans groups in Michigan
pledged their support on the
issue at the JWV conven-
tion last weekend.

"The money from the poppy
sales goes into our rehabili-
tation fund. Ending the
sales would hurt our hospi-
tal work, our educational
work, our aid to widows and
orphans.
"If we agree to this,
every other city will pass
the same resolution and
we won't be able to sell
poppies. .
"Our fight is with (South-
