WORLD THE JE ,,, s Canada Mayor Aids Palestinians TORONTO (JTA) — Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, believes the Pales- tinian cause is misrep- resented by the Canadian media because of pressures "from the powers and the money." She offered to travel the length and breadth of Canada to de- scribe "the real Palestinian problem." McCallion attacked the media in a speech to the an- nual convention of the Canadian Arab Federation. 'VI Pines Summer of '83. KESHER KOSHER TOURS 1 Speaking at a press con- ference at El Al's office here, Schneider said that El Al is expecting at least an average of 80 percent occu- pied seats in the company's flights during the months of May, June and July. He pointed out that in April the company operated on an unprecedented 92 percent of capacity. Schneider said that El will be carrying to Israel this summer about 60,000 American passengers. He predicted that if the current situation continues "El Al will be breaking even in about 18 months." Noting that El Al, which resumed its full schedule of flights March 6, is "strictly a Sabbath observer now," Schneider said that this poses a tremendous "economic challenge" for the company. But he said that El Al's high load factor makes up "for the financial problems resulting from not flying on the Sabbath." He noted that the ban of Sabbath flights increased considerably the number of Orthodox Jews who fly with El Al. BUY SUMMER, GET WINTER FREE! But no date was gi- ven. Discussions were to have begun in Israel last week between Mark Richards, deputy assistant to U.S. At- torney General William French Smith and Israel's Attorney General Yitzhak Shamir. The talks did not materialize however be- cause of a dispute over venue. The Israelis insisted that Richards came to Zamir's office in East Jerusalem. The American official re- fused on grounds that the U.S. does not recognize Is- rael's sovereignty in East Jerusalem which was an- nexed after the 1967 Six- Day Wa'r. Richards re- turned to Washington Sun- day. Richards went to Israel specifically to discuss the case of Valerian Trifa, Ar- chbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the U.S. who was stripped of citizenship and ordered de- ported after he was charged with lying about his Nazi past to obtain entry into the U.S. and subsequently, naturalization. JERUSALEM (JTA) — The 16th anniversary of the Six-Day War found the West Bank relatively quiet Sunday. The scattered inci- dents which occurred were minor compared to out- breaks on the same occasion in previous years. EDUCATIONAL THERAPY The The most serious disor- ders were in Nablus, where Najah University was shut down following a violent demonstration in which five security men were slightly injured. It will remain closed until the end of the school year. Seven students were in- jured in a clash at Bir Zeit University near Ramallah between pro and anti-Yasir Arafat groups. Arafat, meanwhile, is facing a major mutiny within PLO ranks. Florida Club Plans Activity HOMEWORK HOUSE Israel indicated it would consider trying Trifa and other alleged war criminals facing deportation if there was sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction. Under a law adopted in 1950, Israel Six-Day War Is Recalled BONN — A film critical of the Bonn government for not fully removing the ver- dicts of the notorious Peoples Courts of the Nazi era from official records has been banned from distribu- tion by the West German Foreign Ministry, the Frankfurter Rundschau re- ported. The film, "Die Weiese Rose" (The White Rose) which tells the story of a wartime anti-Nazi group, was to be distributed worldwide by the Goethe Institutes'which are largely supported by government funds. arrogated to itself the right to try persons accused of crimes against Jews any- where in the world before the Israeli state was founded in 1948. Yitzhak Feinberg, a spokesman for the Justice -Ministry in Jerusalem said after Richards' departure that he hoped the dis- cussions could be continued later at a lower level.
