The number of commissioned officers in the police force has risen from less than four percent in 1955 to more than 25 per- cent today, with some now acting as district comman- ders and chiefs of national operations. The same may be said of the Israel Defense Force, where, in 1955, there were no Sephardic Jewish generals and today there are five major generals and at least 13 brigadier gener- als. The report was prepared by Harry M. Rosen, veteran social scientist, in consulta- tion with Dr. Sammy Smooha, Haifa University sociology professor. The study shows that while the rise in positions of leadership is uneven, the growth on an overall basis has been steady.
