The Blumberg family has supported a wide variety of Detroit-based charities. Since Mr. Btumberg's death in 1958 the family has con- tinued its philanthropy. Irving Blumberg was a partner, with his twin brother, Louis, in the Blumberg Brothers In- surance Agency. During his 42 years as a resident of Detroit he was ex- tremely active in local communal organizations. He was the president of the Detroit Service Group from 1941 to 1949 and served as a vice president and executive committee member of the • AJCommitte Elects Friedman NEW YORK (JTA) — Howard E. Friedman of Encino, Calif., a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Loeb and Loeb, was elected 19th national president of the American Jewish Committee last week at the organization's 77th annual meeting at the New York Hilton Hotel. He succeeds Maynard Wishner of Chicago who served three years in the: presidential post, and who was elected an honorary president. In his acceptance speech, Friedman presented a list of Jewish values that would guide the AJCommittee. He included "full freedom of in- quiry, including the right and obligation of dissent." Mrs. Tullia Zevi, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Corn- munities, said also that "classic" anti-Semitism was diminishing in Western Europe but, she stressed, "continued vigilance against known neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic forces" was still necessary.
