the National Flag of Israel
series has been issued by
the JNF.
Since 1902, some 4,200
stamps have been issued by
various JNF offices in
North and South America,
Europe and Australia, as
well as the main office in
Jerusalem.

A new stamp issued by
the JNF in Jerusalem will
commemorate this ongoing
project. The stamp features
an original and unique
"bread sculpture" of a young
boy planting a tree, created
by the graphic artist Ruth
Levin.
The full-color stamps
are issued in sheets of 22
with three different tabs.
The tabs contain the

promoting positive rela-
tions between Germans and
Jews visited New York ear-
lier this month.
The academic and reli-
gious leaders from through-
out West Germany are key
actors in a movement to
bring the German people to
face the history of Nazism,
the destruction inflicted on
Jews by anti-Semitism, and
the need to build a new fu-
ture based on respect for
Jews and Judaism.
Since there are only
30,000 Jews left in Ger-
many, most German Chris-
tians today have no contact
with the living Jewish
people and their once vib-
rant culture. During last
week's visit to New York,
the German scholars —
whose names read like a
Who's Who in modern Ger-
Man theology — had first-
hand experience with the
major Jewish seminaries of
all denominations. They
also visited Jewish
museums, libraries, re-
search centers, and -filet
with Christian aso well as
Jewish leaders.
During an evaluation
of their tour, a German
social scientist from Be-
rlin said, "By seeing and
experiencing the rich-
ness and vitality of
Jewish religious and cul-
tural life here, we realize
now how much Germany
lost with the tragic de-
struction of German
Jewry."
Altogether, the German
Christians felt this experi-
ence with New York Jewish
life was one of the great
learning experiences of
their lives. They are deter-
mined, they said, to con-
tinue their struggle against
anti-Semitism in Germany,
and to do everything they
can to assure that a
Holocaust will never hap-
pen again.
Syrians on Ropes
JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Former Israeli Chief of Staff
Raphael Eitan told a radio
interviewer that the Israel
Defense Forces would have
decimated the Syrian army
in Lebanon last June if the
Syrians had not asked for a
cease-fire.
We think according to na-
ture; we speak according to
rules; we act according to
custom.

they depict famous per-

Jewish and Zionist history,
