LAST YEAR, in De-
cember, Natural Ingre-
dients opened on Orchard
Lake Rd. in the new Or-
chard Place with 800 items
. . . everything from dried
fruits to fruit mixes to bak-
ing mixes to beans to baking
ingredients to coffee beans
to grains to candies to bev-
erages to jellies, jams and
preserves to nuts to nut
mixes and pastas to salad
dressings to seasoning
mixes to seeds to snacks to
soup mixes to spices to teas
to deyhdrated vegetables
and powders.
Just four months later, it
has 900 items and no telling
how many the amount will
stop at . . . There are things
at Natural Ingredients that
people never knew existed
. . . When they come in,
folks can take a -list to check
off . ... it's positively amaz-
ing the things they have.
The close to 100 candies
include one that can't be
gotten anywhere else in this
region . . . chocolate mint
meltaway.
Natural Ingredients is a
self-serve operation . . .
with items put into plastic
Ziplock bags . . . Registered
dieticians are always at
Natural Ingredients . . . in-
structing people how to eat
properly and how to prepare
their goods . . . A recipe
sheet is given with all cook-
ing or mixing items .. .
which are so easy to pre-
pare.
Owner Steve Levine lived
in Chicago eight years, saw
something similar . . . and
moved back to Detroit open-
ing one on a very much
larger scale . . . His dad,
Isadore Levine, had the
Fenkell-Schaefer Market
25 years until the riots of
1967 . . . Steve worked there
as "the chief shlepper" . . .
from Bar Mitzva to college
at Ferris Institute in Big
Rapids, where he majored in
accounting . . . He is a CPA
by profession, formerly em-
ployed with Price-
Waterhouse.
- -
But this is his thing now
. . . and Steve is doing it up
big . . . The 3,000 feet of
Natural Ingredients is filled
with untold amounts of
plastic cases . . . where
people can take what they
want . . . There's never been
anything quite like Natural
Ingredients on Orchard
Lake Rd. . . . and those who
go there are glad Steve
didn't stick with being a
CPA.
CONGRATS ... to Mol-
lye Dubbs ... on her birth-
day . . . to Alan Light . . . on
his birthday . . . to Diane
Dzodin . . . on her birthday
. . . and to Mark Gorosh .. .
on birthday number 27.
T.O.P.S. ... (Take Off
Pounds Sensibly) is in its
13th year . . . and still meets
Wednesday evenings, 7 p.m.
. . . Past three years, the
members (now 40 of them)
have gotten together at

Mitchell Marks . . . as wife
Leah and the Feinbergs col-

fun shindig with about 30
folks .feting Mitch on
number 40.
The very good friends had
been together the night be-
fore at Charlie's Crab where
a pink gorilla came to their
table for Roy and Barbara's
anniversary . . . This time,
Mitchell was the attention
center . . . as an Eastern
Onion oo-la-la French lass
made him blush a bit.
The Great Wall food was
wonderful . . . luscious
homemade desserts . . . and
accordion with side man by
"Hoppy" Haapala put out a
