Bettelheim to Address Joint
JFS, Resettlement Parley

Dr. Bruno Bettelheim
will be the guest speaker at
the combined annual meet-
ing of Jewish Family Serv-
ice and Resettlement Serv-
ice at 8 p.m. May 24 at
Temple Beth El. His topic
will be "The Dynamics of
the Changing Family —
Problems of Parent-Child
Relationships."
Dr. Bettelheim is the
Stella M. Rowley Distin-
guished Service Professor
Emeritus of Education,
Psychology and Psychiatry,
and director emeritus of the
Orthogenic School of the
University of Chicago. For
29 years he had been the di-
rector of the orthogenic
school, the university's
residential treatment cen-
ter for severely emotionally
disturbed children. Cur-
rently, he is active in teach-
ing at Stanford University
and in conducting research
on the application of
psychoanalysis to education
and social problems.
Born in Vienna, Austria,
in 1903, he received his PhD
degree in psychology and
philosophy at the Univer-
sity of Vienna. He came as a
refugee to this country in
1939. Dr. Bettelheim is the
author of "A Home for the
Heart," "The Empty For-
tress," "Love Is Not
Enough" and "Truants from
Life," "Children of the
Dream" and "Dialogues

Chicago Psychoanalytic

Chicago Council for

At the combined annual
meeting of JFS and RS,

board members and officers
to both boards. In addition,
there will be an election of
the executive committee of
JFS. Helen Shevin is
president of JFS and Edith
S. Frank is president of RS.

and the chairman of the

meeting planning commit-
