Navon called for the vol- unteer effort while in New York earlier this month for the Israel Day Parade. Has New President JERUSALEM (JTA) — Prof. Dan Patinkin, one of Israel's top economists, has been elected president of Hebrew University. He suc- ceeds Avraham Harman, who served in that post since 1968. Patinkin, 61, served as rector of the university since last October. He will now hold both titles. Har- man will now serve as chan- cellor of the university. Patinkin was born in Chicago and has been a member of the Hebrew Uni- versity faculty since 1949.
