THE CHESTER STRING QUARTET

the Eastman School of
Music that gained it the
position of Eastman's
graduate quartet. The quar-
tet then spent two years
working and assisting the
resident Cleveland Quartet.

engaged by Indiana Uni-
versity at South Bend as its
new resident faculty
ensemble.
Recently, the quartet was
the only American group
selected as a finalist in the
Munich International
Quartet Competition, cap-
turing a top prize.
The quartet made its
debut at Carnegie Hall
and has made numerous
concert appearances.
, Finlay is a recent
graduate of the University
of Michigan School of
Music, where he studied
with coloratura Eva Likova.
There he has performed
such leading roles as Pin-
kerton in "Madame Butter-
fly," Tamino in "The Magic
Flute" and the Duke in
"Rigoletto."
He is a frequent guest of
the West Michigan Opera
Company in Grand Rapids
and was selected apprentice
artist with the Lake George
Opera Festival.

He has appeared on radio
and television and was pre-
sented in recital in Las
Palmas, the Canary Islands
